The Paint Correction Process

Wash and Decontaminate

Your car gets the Deluxe Exterior Detail first: foam cannon, contact wash, wheels done properly. Then a clay bar pulls the bonded grit out of the paint. Polishing dirty paint just grinds it in.

Check the Paint

Matthew looks over the paint under good light to see what will come out, so you know what to expect before polishing starts.

Machine Polish

Panel by panel with a machine polisher. One stage for the 1-step. A cut, then a polish, for the 2-step.

It depends on the size of the car and whether it needs a 1-step or a 2-step. Tell us the car and what the paint looks like in the quote form and you will get a straight price.
About 4 hours for a 1-step and around 7 for a 2-step on most cars.
The correction itself is permanent — once a swirl mark is polished out, it's gone. What causes paint to degrade again is how the car is washed and maintained after the correction. Hand washing, proper wash technique, and avoiding automatic car washes will keep the paint looking sharp for years. Applying a ceramic coating over the corrected paint significantly extends the life of the finish.
Avoid automatic car washes entirely — they're the main cause of swirl marks coming back. Hand wash using a quality microfibre mitt and two-bucket method, or use a touchless wash if you're short on time. Applying a spray wax or detailer every few months helps maintain the gloss between washes. If you've had a ceramic coating applied after correction, follow the coating's specific care instructions.

A standard cut and polish from a service station or drive-through detail uses a one-size-fits-all compound, often with a machine that can cause more damage than it fixes, and fills remaining swirls with wax or glaze to temporarily hide the problem. Paint correction is a multi-step process using the right compounds, pads, and polishers for your specific paint type, with each panel checked and refined until the defect is actually removed. The results last significantly longer and look noticeably better.
Swirl marks, light scratches, and surface oxidation can typically be fully removed. Deep scratches that have cut through the clear coat or into the base coat cannot be polished out and would require a respray to fix. During the inspection, Matthew will identify which marks can be corrected and which can only be improved, so you have a clear picture before work begins.
